First devlog

I’ve always wanted to make a fighting game. I got into Unity a couple of years ago and found Universal Fighting Engine on the Unity asset store and I started playing around by editing the sample characters.  I also practiced making characters using a program called VRoid Studio and started putting the models into the fighting game.

Over the last couple of years, I started studying my favorite fighting game animations/moves and tried to recreate it in my own game. But I kept making characters but not finishing them, or I would try to recreate play styles that were different each time, so I wanted to organize them under one game with one gameplay style.

As far as the game system goes, I’ve been playing Street Fighter 6 and was really inspired by how they introduced modern controls. Also, Granblue Fantasy VS was a big inspiration as far as control schemes go. 3 button (light, medium, and strong) for attacks, 1 button for special moves, special button + strong attack for supers. I also liked the idea of having a combo extender and a burst mechanic to get out of being constantly attacked. All these mechanics are something I added on a whim so if something else turned out better for the overall gameplay, I may change them in the future.

The characters I have so far are my created VRoid models. I did have somewhat of a story about a school of super-powered students and teachers battling evil to save the school, seems pretty cliche though so I’ll hold out for a better storyline.

So far I have 4 characters.

Daichi, the energetic, earth-based power user.

Lena, a confident fashion model with light-based powers.

Bella, the stoic girl with shadow-based powers.

Misato, the unbothered water user who has swimming-inspired attacks.

Hope to regularly update this prototype until it can become an actual game! And thank you to anybody who took the time out to try it out, I really appreciate it!
